4 MUSKOKA CASES AMONG 83 IN REGION FRIDAY

SIMCOE-MUSKOKA — Another 83 cases of COVID include four from Muskoka today, according to the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (SMDHU).
And there were four more deaths in the region bringing the number to 86.
Three of the new cases are in Gravenhurst and one in Huntsville, both towns that lead all incidents in the district.
Three are men and one is a woman.
CASES REPORTED JAN 14:
- Gravenhurst, Episode Jan. 12, male, 18-35, community acquired
- Gravenhurst, Episode Jan. 14, woman, 35-44, under investigation
- Gravenhurst, Episode Jan. 14, man, 80+, under investigation
- Huntsville, Episode Jan. 12, man, 18-34, under investigation
They bring Huntsville’s total to 53 and Gravenhurst 39.
Five more people in the region were admitted to hospital with the virus for a total of 36 today.
And there are now 7,642 people regionally who have tested positive.
They are among 2,998 cases in Ontario where a record 100 people died in reporting for yesterday.
Quebec reports 1,918 cases and 62 deaths, Manitoba 191 cases, 5 deaths.
NOTES:
- There have been more than 1,100 doses of the Pfizer vaccine administered in Simcoe Muskoka (including Barrie), mainly to health care workers in local hospitals, long-term care and retirement homes. This includes over 420 individuals that have received both of the required doses of the vaccine. In addition, 1,630 (or 51 per cent) of long-term care residents have received their first dose.
- SMDHU reports 334 new cases this week. There were 496 cases the week starting Jan. 3.
- Seniors 80 years of age and older had the highest rate of infection so far in January, with 80% of these cases associated with an institutional outbreak.
- There have been 11,189 Pfizer vaccine doses to date and 1,437 dispensed yesterday.
- And 36 people are in hospital, including 5 more since yesterday.
IN OTHER COVID NEWS:
- Province-wide Toronto dipped to 800 cases, Peel 618, York 250, Durham 113, Halton 81, 161 Waterloo and 153 Niagara.
- Worldwide COVIC cases now exceed 2 million.
- Pfizer to reduce supply of vaccine to Canada and some other countries till March as it retools a supply plant in Brussels. Canada says it will still be on track with the company’s vaccine supply in the first quarter of 2021.
- Ontario Premier Doug Ford kicks York Centre MPP out of Conservative caucus after Roman Baber called for an end to the lockdown and restrictions.
- Ontario and Quebec doctors are working on how they may have to decide who will live and who will die if rising numbers force hospitals physicians to decide who gets what services.
