2 MUSKOKA CASES AMONG 72 REPORTED TODAY BY HEALTH UNIT

SIMCOE-MUSKOKA — Day 1 of Ontario’s stay at home order — which came with a smart phone reminder — saw the post holiday fallout kick in with two more Muskoka cases in Gravenhurst and Bracebridge.

The health unit says the Muskoka males — reported yesterday an occurring over the past two days — were among 72 COVID cases.

A Gravenhurst resident aged 0-17 first had symptoms or testing Jan. 11 and was reported to the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit Jan 13. His was community acquired.

The case of a man in Bracebridge, aged 45-64, is under investigation as to cause.

One of the new cases reported today by the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit (in their new way of counting and accounting) is pending.

The health unit offers this informative chart on its website today.

That’s 257 new cases reported to the health unit for the current week. There were 496 new cases reported to the health unit last week (week of January 3rd).

They say 34 people in the region are in hospital and there have been 82 deaths to date.

The total number of COVID cases to date in the region is 4,514, with 1,212 active cases.

And that 9,752 doses of the vaccine have been handed out, including 1,136 yesterday.

This includes over 380 individuals who have received both of the required doses of the vaccine.

As well, 937 (or 29 per cent) long-term care residents have received their first dose.

Anyone with a smart phone got this notice today about staying home or saw it on their computer or TV.

PROVINCE-WIDE:

Ontario reports 3,326 cases today and 62 deaths (5,189 total deaths).

Toronto accounted for 988 of them, Peel 572, York 357 and Windsor 228.

In Quebec there were 2,132 and 64 deaths.
