YOUNG HUNTSVILLE FEMALE ONE OF 56 CASES IN REGION TODAY

SIMCOE-MUSKOKA — Muskoka is bucking the COVID trend again today, with just one of 56 reported cases in the region.

A young Huntsville female under the age of 18 is under investigation as Simcoe ran up the total again with 55 cases.

That brings the total to 322 since Christmas Eve, says the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit after MuskokaTODAY.com dug in to the first two missing days’ statistics yesterday.

Three of them were in Orillia.

The health unit also noted today that an unspecified previous Bracebridge case was re-assigned to different Public Health Units or identified as a duplicate.

They were among a record 2,923 in Ontario, where 20 more people died — one more of them in Simcoe.

To the east, Quebec was up to 2,511 cases and 41 deaths; and just west Manitoba was down to 130 people with the coronavirus and two people died of it.

Toronto, meanwhile, was two shy of 1,000 at 998; Peel was steady on up at 441, York jumped to 408, Durham was at 158 and Windsor-Essex was getting cases down to 144.

NOTES:

  • Ontario Premier Doug Ford now says he knew his Finance Minister Rod Phillips had left the country for a Caribbean vacation when the lockdown began Boxing Day.
  • Canada now requires all incoming air passengers to have proof of a clean bill of COVID health before landing here.
  • And the Trump administration is passing the buck to states to ensure they vaccinate Americans.
Muskokans appear to be staying masked and indoors to help keep numbers down in the northern half of the health unit region — at least here at the 6KG hair salon in Gravenhurst.
