YOU KNOW CHRISTMAS IS COMING WHEN FESTIVE R.I.D.E. ARRIVES

HUNTSVILLE Christmas came early for a Huntsville man accused of being drunk behind the wheel in a morning police check.

Just days before Muskoka officers kicked off their annual Festive RIDE campaign today, Nov 26, Sean Cooper was himself taken for a ride — to the Huntsville detachment.

On Saturday Nov. 21 police were doing a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (R.I.D.E.) spot check on Ravenscliffe Road.

At 8:15 a.m. a car being driven by Sean Patrick Cooper, 45,was stopped and officers say they detected the odour of alcohol coming from him.

They say a roadside screening device (ASD) check was administered at the scene resulting in a fail reading.

Cooper was arrested and transported to the OPP detachment in Huntsville for further testing.

As a result Cooper was charged with operation of a motor vehicle with an impaired-blood alcohol concentration of 80-plus, contrary to section 320.14 (1)(b) of the Criminal Code. Cooper was released to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice, Huntsville, Dec. 16, 2020.

Muskoka OPP officially launched their Festive RIDE campaign today, but not before a Huntsville man got a jump on it Saturday.
