AMAZNG MUSKOKA CONCERT BAND VIDEO REMEMBERS WITH LAST POST

MUSKOKA — With Remembrance Day services limited in size this year due to COVID, most small memorials will have limited musical accompaniment.

Perhaps a piper and a bugler to play Last Post — but like mostly recorded music.

Here in Muskoka some musicians who normally would have been part of some of those ceremonies will be home watching on TV like most Canadians.

But it doesn’t mean they don’t or won’t forget or remember.

And it is one of a number videos the band and its members have done during the COVID downtime.

Many have connections through relatives past or present who served.

Muskoka Concert Band (MCB) conductor and music director Fran Harvey convened some of her band over the internet last month and came up with this amazing tribute and version of Amazing Grace with the Last Post, arranged by Tom Wade West.

It features cornet soloist Neil Barlow, accompanied by the band, playing the Last Post.

The video includes photos from band members of their fathers, mothers, relatives and sons and daughters.

Among them Harvey’s dad, Petty Officer George Harvey RCNVR;  Kim Hawn’s dad and mom next to a photo of a downed Nazi plane; John Selvey’s dad, Diane Harrop’s bombardier dad Charles Harrop and Mark Clairmont’s uncles Bill and Don MacDonald.

A fitting musical salute in a year none of us will forget.
