MUSKOKA — Weekend weather may have been above average, but the COVID count was not.

Since last Friday’s health unit report, 51 people regionally tested positive.

None were in Muskoka.

They are among 1,242 alone in Ontario today and 1,169 in Quebec.

Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit’s daily stats show that the past three days all of the cases were in Simcoe north and south: among them 14 in New Tecumseth, 13 in Barrie, 9 in Bradford-West Gwillimbury and 2 in Wasaga Beach.

See full list below.

The health unit says the average seven-day moving average is 23.5 cases.

And the average per centage of new COVID-19 cases acquired in the community the previous week was 23.2. The goal is below 30 per cent.

However, the average number of people who tested positive the past week was 1.7 per cent, which is trending away than a goal of 1 per cent.

The weekend updates brings to 1,554 cases locally, 164 active, 1,323 recovered and 6 still in hospital.

And health unit note today also says three cases previously assigned to Ramara were removed as they were determined to be duplicate entries.

In other promising news today, Pfizer said a new vaccine being worked on shows 90 per cent effacacy in early trials, which could still change. And there is still no timetable for when such a drug could be made public.

Also, U.S. president-elect Joe Biden has announced a new working group of health officials and scientists who will tackle the pandemic when he takes office Jan. 20.

Weekend weather saw a lot of people out on streets enjoying the weather with many still in masks, but many more not.

There were 51 new cases of COVID-19 reported today by the health unit for the weekend.
