TEENS CHARGED IN CELLPHONE GUN ROBBERY

ORILLIA Two 18-year-olds were in bail court today facing weapons charges in a cellphone gun robbery.

Provincial police say that Monday night just past 11 p.m. officers responded to a robbery with a firearm outside of a business on Atherley Road.

They learned a female was told to hand over her money and phone by a female suspect and that a male suspect had pointed a handgun and threatened the victim, say police.

And that the suspects had fled in a black car.

Police searched the area extensively without finding the vehicle.

Further investigations were made by the Orillia OPP Crime Unit, Southern Georgian Bay OPP officers, the Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU), Regional Support Team (RST), Emergency Response Team (ERT) and Tactics and Rescue Unit (TRU).

As a result, the suspects were identified, located and arrested yesterday, Oct. 8, in Port McNicoll, in Tay Township.

As a result of the investigation, police seized a replica Glock 17 firearm and two prohibited knives, one doubling as brass knuckles.

Charged are:

Riley Carpentier, of Midland:

  • Robbery Using Firearm (Restricted or Prohibited), contrary to Section 344(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
  • Robbery With Violence, contrary to Section 343(a) of the Criminal Code
  • Two counts of Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, contrary to Section 88 of the Criminal Code
  • Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm, contrary to Section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
  • Three counts of Failure to Comply with Undertaking, contrary to Section 145(4)(a) of the Criminal Code

And Taylor Schulze, of Tay Township:

  • Robbery Using Firearm (Restricted or Prohibited), contrary to Section 344(1)(a) of the Criminal Code
  • Robbery With Violence, contrary to Section 343(a) of the Criminal Code
  • Uttering Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm, contrary to Section 264.1(1)(a) of the Criminal Code

Both were held in custody for a bail hearing to appear on Oct. 09, 2020 at the Ontario Court of Justice, Barrie.
