BRACEBRIDGE WOMAN TURNS HERSELF IN AFTER FLEEING POLICE

BRACEBRIDGE — A Bracebridge woman and an Orillia man who fled police have been charged.

The woman turned herself in and the man is still on the run.

Provincial police say that on Oct. 13 members of the Muskoka Community Street Crime (CSCU) of the Bracebridge detachment of the OPP observed two individuals in a vehicle who were violating terms of their release.

Officers stopped the vehicle in the Township of Severn, however, the driver of the vehicle drove off, forcing an officer to jump out of the vehicle’s path.

On Oct. 19 the driver who fled turned herself in to the Orillia OPP.

The passenger was also involved in an incident in Orillia Oct. 8 where he fled from police in his vehicle.

An officer attempted to stop the motor vehicle on Regent Street, but said the driver drove up on a curb to evade police and fled.

He is still outstanding, and is wanted on multiple charges.

Justine Docherty, 28, of Bracebridge, is charged with:

  • Fail to Comply with Undertaking S. 145(5)(a) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC);
  • Flight from Peace Officer S. 320.17 CC;
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle S. 320.13(1) CC; and
  • Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon S. 270.01(1)(a) CC.

Kaleb Saastamoinen, 25, of Orillia, is charged on Oct. 13 with:

  • Flight from Peace Officer S. 320.17 CC;
  • Three counts of Failure to Comply with Release Order S. 145(5)(a) CC; and
  • Two counts of Failure to Comply with Probation Order S. 733.1(1) CC.

And on Oct. 8 he is charged with:

  • Failure to Comply with Probation Order S. 733.1(1) CC;
  • Two counts of Failure to Comply with Release Order S. 145(5)(a) CC;
  • Operation while Prohibited S. 320.18(1)(a) CC;
  • Flight from Peace Officer S. 320.17 CC; and
  • Dangerous Operation of a Motor Vehicle S. 320.13(1) CC.

Docherty was held for bail via video at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on Oct. 20, 2020.

Saastamoinen remains outstanding and is wanted on all of the above charges.
