THEFTS FROM VEHICLE THWARTED IN GRAVENHURST

GRAVENHURST — A Gravenhurst man and a Huntsville man were charged here this week with theft from vehicles on the main street.

Provincial police say that on Monday, June 8, at 2:30 p.m. officers were sought out by a member of the public who had just had items stolen from his vehicle while he was in a store on Muskoka Road North in Gravenhurst.

A short time later, another member of the public provided police with valuable information after encountering the suspects near her home, which ultimately led to the arrest of the two suspects on First Street North.

The stolen property was recovered along with a quantity of illegal drugs.

Police charged 26-year-old Lucas Shea with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000 CC 354(1)(a), Possession of Schedule IV Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking CDSA 5(2) and Possession of a Prohibited Device CC 92(2).

Police also charged 33 year-old Robert Iwanow, of Gravenhurst, with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime CC 354(1)(a).

The pair are to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on August 18, 2020 to answer to their charges.

Police credit the quick actions of both the victim and the witnesses in the recovery of the stolen property and quick apprehension of the pair responsible.
