POLICE USE SPIKED BELT TO STOP FLEEING DRIVER

HUNTSVILLE One man remains in custody on weapons charges and a female driver accused of driving at police is out on bail after, after both were also charged with drug offences here Saturday afternoon.

Provincial police say that on June 11 at 3 p.m. officers conducted a traffic stop on Brunel Road.

They say that during the stop they discovered drug related offences.

And that the male passenger provided false identification.

They say the male passenger resisted arrest causing minor injuries to officers.

Also while officers were arresting the male, the female driver allegedly drove her vehicle at officers before they say she turned away and fled from the scene.

The vehicle was eventually stopped on Muskoka Road 10 after the driver attempted to avoid a spiked belt and nearly struck another police vehicle.

The driver reversed into the ditch at which point officers blocked in her vehicle and placed her under arrest.

As a result, the investigation resulted in Jameal Johnson, 37, of North York, being charged with:

  • – Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – CDSA 5(2)
  • – Unauthorized possession of a weapon – CC 91(2)
  • – Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose – CC 88
  • – Personation with intent to avoid arrest – CC 403(1)(d)
  • – Obstruct Peace Officer – CC 129(a)
  • – Resist Peace Officer – CC 129(2)
  • – Two counts of Assault Peace Officer – CC 270(1)(a)
  • – Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 – CC 354(1)(a)

Also charged is Ceann Young, 25, of Brampton. She faces charges of:

  • – Flight from Police – CC 320.17
  • – Three counts of Assault a Peace Officer with a weapon – CC 270.01(1)(a)
  • – Dangerous Operation – CC 320.13(1)
  • – Possession of a schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – CDSA 5(2)
  • – Possession of a prohibited weapon at an unauthorized place – CC 93(a)
  • – Possession of a weapon for dangerous purpose – CC 88
  • – Possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000 – CC 354(1)(a)

Both were held for bail court June 12 in Ontario Provincial Court of Justice.

Johnson was held over in custody and is scheduled to appear again in remand court on June 19, 2020.

Young was released on a Recognizance of Bail and is scheduled to return to Huntsville Ontario Provincial Court on Aug. 19, 2020.
