POLICE CHARGE GRAVENHURST WOMAN WITH OPIOIDS

GRAVENHURST — Two Muskoka residents face charges after a police investigation in Orillia led to vehicle being stopped here Saturday night.

Provincial police say that on Saturday June 6, at 10:40 p.m., the were assisting with an investigation stemming from an incident in Orillia, and OPP officers stopped a vehicle on Fernwood Drive in Gravenhurst.

That led to an arrest and charges against 36-year-old Whitney Wilson, of Gravenhurst.

She is chargd with Impaired Operation by Drug CC 320.14(1)(a) and Possession of a Schedule I Substance (Opioid) CDSA 4(1).

Wilson is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on Aug. 18, 2020 to answer to her charges.

Her driver’s licence has been suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded.

The passenger in the vehicle, 19-year-old Sheldon Burry, of Bracebridge, was also arrested on outstanding warrants.

The Simcoe Muskoka United Way says the substance abuse of opioids is a medical illness and shouldn’t be stigmatized.
