FIRE FORCES FIVE TO FLEE HUNTSVILLE HOME TODAY

HUNTSVILLE — Five people are without a home to stay in place today after a fire forced from their apartment.

The Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department said this afternoon that they responded to a report of a structure fire on Meadow Park Drive in Huntsville at 9 a.m.

Responding firefighters encountered heavy smoke and flames coming from a second-floor apartment.

The fire was quickly knocked down and contained to the unit of origin.

Other areas in the building suffered smoke damage.

One person was assessed at the scene for smoke inhalation by Muskoka Paramedic Services and released.

Muskoka Victim Services is providing help and support for the displaced residents.

Mike Vadlja, fire prevention officer, said in the release that the fire is believed to have started in an electrical appliance and is not deemed suspicious.

He said damage to the building and contents is estimated at $250,000.
