OPP OFFICER CHARGED AFTER YOUNG CYCLIST HIT BY POLICE CRUISER

GRAVENHURST — An unidentified veteran police officer has been charged after a young cyclist was struck on a main street sidewalk by a mark police cruiser this summer.

Provincial police say the charge comes after an investigation by officers at the Bracebridge OPP detachment, into the Aug. 8 incident on Muskoka Road North, in Gravenhurst on August 8, 2019.

They say in a release that the northbound OPP vehicle was turning into a commercial parking lot, just north of the post office, when the collision occurred between the police cruiser and the cyclist.

As a result of the investigation, a 10-year member of the OPP has been charged with “Turn — not in safety as per section 142(1) of the Highway Traffic Act (HTA).”

No further information, including the name of the officer, or a court date were released by the police in the release Oct. 30.
