FOREVER FRIDAYS: CLIMATE PROTESTS CONTINUE OCT. 4

BRACEBRIDGE — “Friday and EVERY FRIDAY.”

That’s the promise of the Facebook group Climate Action Muskoka, who have taken on and expanded student protests the past two weeks in Huntsville and Bracebridge with the help of another grassroots group, Muskoka Power of Many.

Tamsen Tillson and Krystal Speck, of Climate Action Muskoka, are two of the organizers behind the latest blitz at MPP Norm Miller’s office in Bracebridge, are reminding Muskokans that the fight against climate change is not over.

“Hey everyone,” they posted, “this is to let you know that there WILL be a rally in Bracebridge this Friday (Oct. 4) and EVERY FRIDAY, from 11:30 to 12:30. Outside Norm Miller’s office, 165 Manitoba Street.

“(For now … that may change. As it gets cooler we may move it to the Memorial Park bandshell where it’s under cover.)”

Protesters are targetting Miller’s office because they believe his provincial Conservative government is anti-climate change.

The post says Debbie Punnewaert has registered the rally as an ongoing series and “we’re just waiting for confirmation with a link that we’ll share so you can register your name and be added to the global tally. So please check back and register.”

“If you feel there is an urgent need for government of all levels to make climate action a high priority, PLEASE come join us! Bring your signs, bring your friends, bring your ideas. We are just a small town, but if we’re determined and persistent and we work together, we can make a difference.”

Children are our future. That’s the message Climate Change Muskoka protesters continue to impress upon passersby outside MPP Norm Miller’s Conservative constituency office in Bracebridge the past two weeks. They will be back tomorrow, Oct. 4, and for the foreseeable future. (Climate Action Muskoka photos)
Community activists brought their children out last Friday to join the protest and demonstration in Bracebridge.
Climate Change Muskkoa advocates are continuing their protests and demonstrations for the third week at MPP Norm Miller’s office in Bracebridge around noon.
