CLOTHES DRYER FIRE IN HUNTSVILLE WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON

HUNTSVILLE Two people escaped a fier in a clothes dryer here this afternoon.

Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department responded to a reported fire at 5:30 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 12, on East Elliott Street in Huntsville.

Mike Vadlja, fire prevention officer, said that when crews arrived, they encountered heavy smoke and fire at the rear of the structure that had spread into the roof and attic areas.
Assistance was requested from Port Sydney Station 3 and the fire was quickly brought under control.

Crews remained on scene extinguishing hotspots into this evening.

They say two occupants who discovered the fire made it safely outside.

And no injuries were reported.

The home suffered extensive smoke and fire damage.

Vadlja said the origin and cause of the fire are currently being investigated.

He said no damage estimate has been established at this time.
