UPDATE: NORTH YORK MAN, 20, BRACEBRIDE DROWNING VICTIM

BRACEBRIDGE — The man who drowned Sunday afternoon at the Bracebridge Falls has been identified.

Police say bystanders were able to bring the swimmer to shore and paramedics took him to hospital, where he was reported dead.

Provincial police say that shortly before 1 p.m. Roberto Carmona, 20, of North York was swimming at the public beach area below the falls and failed to surface.

Members of the Bracebridge detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and emergency crews were called to assist.

He was swimming in the river with a friend when he went in to distress and slipped under the water.

He was located by bystanders and CPR was initiated.

Paramedics transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.

A previous story said two people died this weekend. That was not case.
