PARRY SOUND MAN ARRESTED IN 2 ORILLIA BANK ROBBERIES

ORILLIA A Parry Sound was arrested in Barrie Wednesday and will be in court for a bail hearing Thursday facing two bank robbery charges in Orillia.

Barrie police arrested Avery Nickerson, 35.

A pair of bank robberies July 11 in Orillia have led to the arrest of a Parry Sound man July 17 in Barrie.

Provincial police at Orillia say that on July 11, 2019, shortly after 3:30 p.m. a lone male walked into a downtown Orillia bank and handed the teller a note demanding cash. The suspect then fled, empty handed, from the bank through the rear parking lot.

About two hours later, the same suspect walked into a second west end bank and again handed the teller a note demanding cash. An undisclosed amount of cash was handed over and the suspect then exited the bank through the front entrance.

No weapon was seen during either occurrence.

A thorough search of the area was conducted by OPP members, Aviation services, the OPP Canine unit and members of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) who were unable to locate the suspect at that time.

The Orillia Major Crime Unit is continued to investigate and, as a result, an arrest warrant was issued for Nickerson.

He faces charges including two counts of Robbery CC 344(1)(b), two counts of Disguise with Intent 351(2) and additional charges.
