MAN DROWNS AT GRAVENHURST BEACH SATURDAY AFTERNOON

GRAVENHURST — A 37-year-old Brampton man is dead after a swimming accident here Saturday afternoon at the Muskoka Beach.

Provincial police say that just after 4 June 29, emergency services from the OPP, Gravenhurst Fire Department and Muskoka Paramedic Service were called to a public beach in Gravenhurst, in response to a report of three people that had been on a swimming toy and had gone under water and were in distress.

A woman and a child were pulled from the water and taken to hospital where they were expected to recover.

The search continued for the missing man, with the assistance of the OPP Marine Unit, Aviation services and the Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU).

However, shortly after 6 p.m. the man was pulled from the water and life-saving efforts were unsuccessful.

Emergency services, including police, fire, paramedics and air responded to Saturday afternoon’s fatality in Gravenhurst. The OPP’s undewater search and recovery unit found the man after 6 p.m.

His identity is not being released until next of kin have been notified.
