PORT CARLING — From Miami to Muskoka, at Gee Beauty and 6 By Gee it’s “all about the glow.”
And the Gee family is bringing that unique brand of “lifestyle and flexibility” to Port Carling this summer, via their Toronto store.
Stephanie Gee, one of four family partners, says they are “excited about this fun opportunity for us,” to be bring their “GEE PopUp” store next week to the Duke Builing at the Lake Muskoka Locks for the first two weeks of July.
A day after Canada Day, on July 2, Gee and her team will be open for 14 days straight, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., with a curated collection of their most popular beauty products, clothing lines, jewelry and lifetstyle products.
“Hello, Muskoka! We’re thrilled to bring our edited mix of result-driven beauty to the dock this summer. We like to say Gee stands for glow and we’ll be on hand helping emphasize your naturally-gorgeous summer beauty. We can’t wait to see you up North,” add Stephanie.
They join a growing number of pop-ups in recent years in Muskoka, including Lulu Lemen, which has a store in nearby Minett.
The Gees call the pop-up “an experiential beauty destination” that will bring “an assortment of carefully curated beauty, skincare and wellness lines, as well as an edit mix of fashion and style essentials.”
“We’ve done a few pop-ups in Miami,” said Stephanie.
“A lot of our clients are in Muskoka. A lot of our clients are going to be up there. So there and will be a nice familiarity,” said Gee, who is partner in the multi-generational business started in 2005 with her sisters Celene and Natalie and their mother Miriam, the founder of the international and e-commerce business.
“I think we’ll be in really good company in the Duke’s Building. It’s something we’ve wanted to do since the beginning. We just were waiting for the right opportunity. It seemed like the perfect fit and the right time of year. It was all very serendipitous.”
They are bringing “the world’s best skin care & cosmetic brands” to Muskoka — “beauty + style, as well as offering brow, lash, makeup applications + mini skin treatments.”
“We will have a beauty chair so we can do those services,” says Stephanie, “and director-style chairs for the makeup,” so their experts can assist skin-care advice.
Stephanie will be joined at the pop-up by her sister Celine, her cousin Michele, who is the 6 By Gee Beauty store manager in Toronto and two clinicians.
Her other sister, Natalie and her mother Miriam will join them at the AirB&B they are renting during stay.
“So we’ll be very close.”
They will be retailing cult favourites like Dr. Barbara Sturm, Dr. Sebagh, Le Labo, Goop, Xirena, GEE Beauty’s own Prime Skin makeup collection, and 6 By GEE Beauty home essentials perfect for any cottage occasion.
There will be three staff on at all times.
And they may stay open evenings (and even drop by your dock — if you send a boat).
“We’ll be very accommodating,” said Stephanie, “depending on our clients’ schedule.
“Once we get up there, it’s all about the feeling and the mood of the Dukes Building and what the lifestyle is like. We really want to be flexible.
The GEES makeup “is our own brand,” said Stephanie. “It’s manufactured in the United States.
“It’s very much the essence of our brand. The makeup is all about lifestyle. The purpose is to enhance your natural attributes. We’re really there to help give you the tools in your tool box to feel your bet.
“Our makeup is all natural, mineral-based. It’s very breathable, very multi-purpose. So, like you can use a blush as both a blush and a lipstick. It’s very long-lasting.
“It’s all about the glow.
“So, it creates this rejuvenating, rehydrating finish on your skin,” added Stephanie.
“We want our makeup to be subtle, but still give you the look you want.”
She said transitioning from the city in the morning to the cottage later in the day doesn’t have be all that challenging.
“Ultimately people are wearing much less makeup when they’re up north, understandably. It’s a very relaxed culture. They’re jumping in and out of the lake all day.
“We wanted to position our brand up north as, whether you want to replenish your skin care, or you wanted to focus on low maintenance, so that it’s not makeup, makeup.
“They want just a little bit of something. So that people wouldn’t particularly point out and say ‘Oh, my God, what lipstick is that?’ Rather, you want them to say ‘wow! your skin looks so nourished.”
