LAKES, RIVERS CLEARED FOR LONG WEEKEND BOATING

MUSKOKA Muskoka lakes and rivers waters are safe to navigate again in time for the May 24 Victoria long weekend.

Just in time for the Victoria weekend, boaters on the big lake and Muskoka River can get out and enjoy the start of summer.

While levels remain high in some areas, Transport Canada has lifted a ban issued April.

The interim order prohibiting navigation on Lake Muskoka, the north and south Branches of the Muskoka River and Moon River have all cleared for use.

However, provincial police warn that although the restriction is rescinded, the OPP advise the waterways affected by the flood conditions continue to have hidden dangers.

Fast moving water and unexpected debris floating on top of and just under the surface of the water will continue pose serious risk to boaters.

If you plan to go out on a pleasure craft, as always, they urge you please use extra caution and wear your lifejacket.

Also, stay away from shorelines with sandbags to avoid wakes that could breach them.
