UPDATE: ‘ILLEGAL OCCUPATION’ AT WAHTA WEDNESDAY NIGHT

WAHTA — Provincial police have wrapped up a First Nations “occupation” first report by MuskokaTODAY.com a few hours ago, just before 10 p.m. Wednesday nght.

The Wahta Cultural Healing Centre west of Bala.

As of 1:40 a.m. Thursday, OPP report they have opened Muskoka Road 38 just before 10 p.m. Wednesday, May 8.

They report now that they have concluded their operations on site there into “the entry and illegal occupation” of the Cultural Healing Centre in the Wahta Mohawk Territory.

Muskoka Road 38 was closed between Wahta Road 3 and Wahta Road 5 for the investigation, for more than three hours.

Police originally said there was no threat to public safety beyond the area contained by their officers.

The OPP members with the Provincial Liaison Team (PLT)  were on scene and worked with the organizers of this occupation in an attempt to mitigate issues and mediate the situation.

Police said just before 2 a.m. today that their investigation into the persons involved in this incident continues.
