GRAVENHURST ADDS $324,000 COTTAGE FIRE TRUCK TO FLEET

GRAVENHURST — A $324,000 fire truck has been added to the fleet of the Gravenhurst Fire Department.

This week, the town accepted delivery.

“This truck was intentionally designed to be smaller than normal to facilitate access down some of our smaller cottage roads,” said fire Chief Larry Brassard.

“The truck is capable of carrying 1,500 gallons of water and is equipped with a proper truck mounted fire pump, plus a portable water pump, a portable water tank and a variety of equipment, which the Farm Credit Canada Grant helped us purchase”, said Brassard.

On hand for the delivery were representatives of Farm Credit Canada, who through a grant from their “Agri-Spirit Fund” contributed $25,000.00 towards the purchase of the truck and its equipment.

Mayor Paul Kelly was on hand as well and expressed his appreciation for the support as well.

“Gravenhurst is a rural community, and so this truck will play an important part in helping to keep our community safe from the effects of fire.”

“The Gravenhurst Fire Truck project was one of 19 Ontario community projects supported by our Agri-Sprit fund in 2018 and we’re delighted to see this project come to fruition,” said Farm Credit Canada spokesperson Greg Brett. “Investing in and supporting smaller communities throughout Canada is simply good business for us and we’re delighted to do so”.

Gravenhurst firefighters are currently undergoing training with the new truck and it is expected to go “in service” this weekend. The truck which cost $324,000.00 will be assigned to Station 1 in Gravenhurst.
