Muskoka Anglers end season with 8-0 loss to CPJHL champion Angus

GRAVENHURST — Five goals in the second period finished off the Muskoka Anglers for the season, as the visiting Essa Stallions defended their Canadian Premier Junior Hockey League championship Sunday afternoon with a dominating 8-0 win in Gravenhurst.

The Anglers didn’t score and had no shots in the second and third periods in losing the best-of-three CPJHL championship final two games straight.

It was 2-0 after the first, 6-0 after two periods and 8-0 game over.

Gravenhurst had all 27 of its shots in first period and amazingly had no shots on goal in the second or third periods.

The penalty-filled game may have contributed to the outcome, with the teams sharing 15 penalties — the majority of nine going to the Anglers.

However, the Stallions only score three times with the extra man.

Stallions stud Tim Holmstrom had a hat trick.

The Anglers also lost the first game of the best-of-three 6-1 Saturday night in Angus.

Gravenhurst had swept its two previous series to get into the final.

This time the luck of the Irish just wasn’t with the green team.
