Gryphons in London ready to tip off Monday in Game 1 at OFSSA

LONDON, Ont. — The Gryphs are on the ground here and ready to spring in to action Monday morning.

They’ll tip off at 10:30 a.m. against Villanova College.

The defending GBSSA (Georgian Bay Secondary School Association) senior boys champ hasn’t played any of the 20 teams they could face as they begin round-robin play.

But they’re ready after arriving Sunday for a tournament team photo-op and evening banquet.

Then it’s early to bed (?) and early to rise, as they prepare for a second shot at provincial honours in the Divison A.

With a guarantee of three games, they hope to advance to the championship round and emerge Wednesday with a medal — preferrably gold.

They are ranked 14th, five spots about last year, when they were new and untested in Ontario play and lost all three games, albeit close.

This year, says their head coach Gillian Humphries, the team is more proven and experienced on the big stage.

Which may be why they are seeded slightly higher.
