Driving complaint suspect arrested after switching seats with passenger

GRAVENHURST — An Oro-Medonte man was charged Monday night after a driving complaint.

A driver who reportedly ran a red light was arrested and charged in Gravenhurst on Monday night.

Provincial police arrested a suspected impaired driver thanks to the efforts of a concerned member of the public.

They say that shortly after 8 p.m. on March 11, police received a call from a concerned driver regarding the another driver after he was witnessed a vehicle swerving and then running a stop light in Gravenhurst.

Officers responded and were able to locate the suspect vehicle.

Witnesses told police that while they were responding the driver and passenger switched seats.

After speaking to the occupants, the man who was doing all the driving was arrested.

Charged with Impaired Operation of a Motor Vehicle under the Criminal Code, Having Open Liquor in Vehicle under the Liquor Licence Act and Failure to Surrender Drivers Licence under the Highway traffic Act is 35-year-old Mathew Mailey.

He is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on April 9 to answer to his charges.
