Bracebridge man charged with fleeing OPP in chase that damaged four police cruisers

BRACEBRIDGE — A Bracebridge driver who led police on a chase and had his vehicle stopped using a spiked belt, faces four charges.

Police were responding to an assist call on Hwy. 11 when the driver sped away.

Provincial police in Bracebridge have charged 47-year-old Andrew Moore with Impaired Operation while Blood Alcohol Over 80 CC 320.14(1)(b), Flight from Police CC 320.17 X2, Dangerous Operation CC 320.13, Resist Arrest CC 129(a).

The accused received an immediate 90-day driver’s licence suspension and further had his vehicle towed and impounded. He will appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on March 12, 2019 to answer to his charges.

Police say that on February 15, 2019 just before 2 p.m. officers responded to a request to assist a motorist on Highway 11 South in Bracebridge.

After a brief interaction, the driver fled in his vehicle.

Police followed as he exited onto Cedar Lane near highway 117 and continued driving south, refusing to stop for police.

Police deployed a spike belt and were able to stop the vehicle before it entered a school zone however four cruisers sustained minor damage in the process.

No one was injured.
