Loaded handgun found during police stop in Orillia

ORILLIA An Orillia woman is among three people — aged 20, 21 and 22 — who face numerous drug and gun charges — including possession of a loaded handgun after a traffic stop here last Friday.

An Orillia woman is among three people in custody after a loaded handgun was found in their vehicle, along with a drugs and cash.

OPP from the Orillia detachment says they arrested and charged the trio Sept. 14, 2018, at 2:40 a.m.

They say police were on patrol police and observed a vehicle violating the Highway Traffic Act. A traffic stop was conducted and an investigation into the offence started.

Through the investigation police located a loaded handgun, a quantity of cash and drugs.

All three were held in custody for a bail hearing at the Ontario Court of Justice in Orillia where they were remanded into custody with a next court appearance scheduled for Sept. 20.

As a result of this investigation police charged the following people:

  • Sydney Bunkun, age 20, of Toronto:

Possession of a Restricted Firearm for Dangerous Purpose, contrary to Section 88(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Unauthorized Possession of a Restricted Firearm, contrary to Section 91(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Possession of Weapon Obtained by Commission of an Offence, contrary to Section 96(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Possession of a Restricted Firearm in a motor vehicle, contrary to Section 94(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Possession of a Loaded Firearm with Ammunition, contrary to Section 95(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Tampering with Serial Number, contrary to Section 108(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Mischief Under $5000, contrary to Section 430(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Obstruct Police Officer, contrary to Section 129(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada

Possession of a Schedule II Substance contrary to Controlled Drugs and Substances Act section 4(1)

Possession of a Restricted Firearm for Dangerous Purpose, contrary to Section 88(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Unauthorized Possession of a Restricted Firearm, contrary to Section 91(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Possession of Weapon Obtained by Commission of an Offence , contrary to Section 96(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Possession of a Restricted Firearm in a motor vehicle, contrary to Section 94(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Possession of a Loaded Firearm with Ammunition, contrary to Section 95(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Tampering with Serial Number, contrary to Section 108(1)(b) of the Criminal Code of Canada.

Resist Lawful Arrest, contrary to Section 129(1) of the Criminal Code of Canada
