2 people die in head-on crash at entrance to Algonquin Park Sunday

HUNTSVILLE Two people are dead after a tour bus and two cars collided on Hwy. 60 at the entrance to Algonquin Park Sunday afternoon.

Algonquin Park staff ran and passersby stopped to help after a car collided head-on with a tour bus Sunday afternoon at the entrance to the West Gate.

Provincial police say that on Aug. 19, at 4 p.m. OPP from Huntsville and Killaloe, along with Algonquin Highlands Fire, Lake of Bays Fire and Muskoka EMS were called to the scene.

They say the collision involved a tour bus along with two other vehicles. The tour bus did not have any passengers on it at the time of the collision.

Initial investigation determined that a small blue car was heading west on Hhighway 60 crossed the centre line striking the bus head-on.

The blue car then flipped on the road, striking a small black car.

Two people were transported to a local area hospital where they were treated and released for non-life threatening injuries.

A third person was transported to a Toronto area hospital by ORNGE with serious injuries.

Two others were confirmed deceased at the scene.  Their names will be withheld pending next of kin notification.

Hwy. 60 was closed for several hours while Central Region Traffic Collision Investigators assisted the detachment members with the investigation.
