Ride the Wave with reloadable fare cards on BB Transit

BRACEBRIDGE — Transit users here can Ride the Wave more easily Monday by just waving their card over the fare box.

Starting Monday July 23 Bracebridge Transit riders can just flash their new reloadable waveCard on the fare box to travel around town.

Starting July 16, Bracebridge Transit will be offering the reloadable, re-useable “waveCARD” for the conventional bus service.

The cards will be available for purchase at the Town of Bracebridge Municipal Office, Bracebridge Sportsplex and Bracebridge Public Library.

The waveCARDS provide convenience for riders who use the Transit service on a semi-regular to regular basis, says a town release Thursday.

A waveCARD can be pre-loaded for a minimum of $5 to a maximum of $150 (60 rides for adults or 75 rides for students/seniors).

The waveCARD is an interactive smart card that passengers hold over the tag zone located on the fare box on the bus.

The tag zone reader recognizes the type of pass on the card and deducts the applicable fare from the card, electronically, in about a second.

The say riders will benefit from the convenience of not having to ensure they have the exact cash fare prior to boarding the bus.

Riders can pre-load their cards and have the security of knowing that they can board Bracebridge Transit at any time by using their waveCARD.

Once a rider purchases their first waveCARD for $2.50, they will be able to keep using the same card, week after week, month after month.

Note that all Bracebridge Transit smartcards are not registered, which means a lost or stolen card cannot be replaced.

At this time, the waveCARD can only be used for the Bracebridge Transit conventional bus as the Bracebridge Mobility vehicle does not have a smartcard reader which would auto deduct the fares. The monthly easyPASS continues to be available for both systems.

The Bracebridge Transit service follows an hourly schedule on a single route within the Town’s urban core, providing riders with a transportation system in a, safe and accessible vehicle.
