Got a complaint about noise? Huntsville wants to know

HUNTSVILLE — Got a noisy neighbour, or you hate the sound of loud motorcycles and trucks with mufflers that sound like tanks?

Want to stop neighbours playing their stereo too loud? Go to the meetings next week in Huntsville.

Then the Town of Huntsville wants to hear from you.

One of the most taxing and challenging irritants to the bylaw department are noise complaints.

As part of their regular bylaw review process, Huntsville is seeking input on proposed changes to the noise bylaw and will be hosting two public meetings to gather input from the community.

“It’s really important that residents come out to these upcoming meetings,” encourages Andrew Stillar chief bylaw officer.

“Not only is it an opportunity for the community to review the proposed changes, it is a chance to provide input, feedback and ensure that the by-law clearly reflects the values of  its citizens with respect to noise and tolerance.”

Key proposed changes include clarification of definitions used in the by-law, noise exemptions, and increased fines as well as how the town approaches provisions related to pet noise, excessive noise, special event noise, and statutory holidays, among others.

There will be two opportunities for the community to give input. Both meetings start at 7:00pm with a presentation from staff on the proposed changes to the Noise By-Law. Following the presentation, staff will be available to answer questions on a drop-in basis until 8:30 p.m.

The meeting are:

· In Huntsville: Wednesday, July 11, at the Active Living Centre on the Fire Place Side

·  In Port Sydney: Thursday, July 12, at the Port Sydney Community Hall
