Free fishing weeks wraps up at Algonquin Park Saturday

ALGONQUIN PARK Cast off for Algonquin Park this Saturday for the free Rock Bass Family Fishing Day, as Kids, Cops get ready to dip a line in the water.

Canadians can fish for free – without a licence – this week until June 8.

It marks the start of National Fishing Week, when Canadians can fish without a licence for seven glorious summer days.

The event is being held at the park and will begin at 9 a.m. to  and go to 2 p.m. at Whitefish Lake (km Marker 37.6).

Algonquin Park’s West Gate is just 20 minutes east of Huntsville.

The Kids, Cops Fishing Day is free, but a daily vehicle permit is required for the park.

A barbecue lunch of hot dogs, fries and fresh Rock Bass will be provided.

This year marks Ontario Parks and Algonquin Provincial Parks’ 125th Anniversary so be ready for a big fun family event!

It is part of the Canada-wide celebration, National Fishing Week, June 30 to July 8.

For one full week, Canadian residents can enjoy the fun of fishing in Ontario without the need of a licence.

That’s coast-to-coast.

The event is sponsored by the Canadian National Sportfishing Foundation, a not-for-profit organization dedicated to promoting and protecting recreational fishing.

It is also supported by Fishing Forever, Police Association of Ontario, and Canadian Tire.
