Old explosives, detonators disposed of by OPP

HALIBURTON — The OPP bomb squad disposed of explosives on the scene after they were found abandoned Thursday.

A 911 call alerted police to the old explosives and detonators stores dangerously close together.

Provincial police say that on May 31, at about 12:38 p.m., Haliburton Highlands officers responded to a police assistance call to property on Redkenn Road in the Township of Dysart et al after the property owner located deteriorated explosives and old dangerous detonators.

The explosives and detonators were stored together and created a very dangerous situation.

Due to the condition of the explosives and detonators, Explosive Disposal Unit (EDU) members had to dispose of explosives at the scene using approved disposal techniques.

EDU members rendered the scene safe for the property owner and public.

The OPP wish to remind everyone to call police if they suspect they may have come across what they believe maybe explosives.
