UPDATE: Missing kayaker’s body found in Midland Friday

MIDLAND At 7:45 p.m. Friday June 15, the body of a Tay Township female kayaker was located and recovered with the assistance of the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit (USRU) from the waters of Georgian Bay off Midland Bay Woods, Tay Township.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending the conclusion of the post mortem.

Emergency services in and on the water searching for the missing kayaker had asked for all private vessels to stay well clear of their search activities in Midland Bay off Midland Bay Woods.

MIDLAND A massive police, air, military and marine search is underway at the moment for a missing kayaker.

OPP marine police are helping in the search for a missing kayaker Friday afternoon.

Members of the Southern Georgian Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Marine Unit were dispatched at 1:15 pm Friday afternoon to a report of an over-turned kayak off Midland Bay Woods in Tay Township.

The Canadian Forces Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) has dispatched a Hercules search and rescue aircraft and a helicopter to the scene to participate in the incident.

An OPP helicopter is also enroute along with the OPP Underwater Search and Rescue Unit to assit the members of the OPP patrol vessel Thomas P. Coffin.

Currently officers are searching for what is reported as a female occupant of the kayak who is unaccounted for.
