‘Grayder’ gets Pink Grapefruit Radler beer named after Bracebridge mayor

BRACEBRIDGE — Graydon Smith has been described many ways since becoming mayor.

A collaboration between the Giffin Pub in Bracebridge and Gravenhurst’s Sawdust City Brewery has named a beer after the Bracebridge mayor.

But having a “distincly tart flavor, citrusy aroma, lively effervescence and light-bodied crispness” may be a first.

Now he’s stuck with it after “Grayder’s Pink Grapefruit Radler” won over beer lovers with the people’s choice award at the 2017 Sessions Muskoka Beer Festival.

“Grayder is a nickname I’ve been tagged with since I was a kid. It’s fun and hilarious to see it on such a great product.”

“Thanks to Session Muskoka and Sawdust City Brewery for crafting it and thanks to the people for selecting it as a winner.”

Sawdust City brewmaster Sam Corbeil and his brother Jed Corbeil, co-owner of the Griffin Gastro Pub, poured the first pint of Grayder’s Pink Grapefruit Radler for its namesake this week.

Judged the people’s choice from over 12 township entries at the 2017 Session Muskoka Beer Festival, this 3.8% by volume radler “has a tart refreshing taste that is sure to quench any summer thirst,” says a release.

“We are so excited to have Bracebridge win this contest after seeing such success for other township beers. We expect this beer to really turn some heads and recognize Bracebridge for having fantastic taste,” said Jed Corbeil.

Smith gave two thumbs up after sampling the people’s choice winner.

“Even though it’s not quite summer, this beer is superbly refreshing,” he said after his first pint.

Grapefruit Radlers have become the summer’s alcohol craze in the past few years.

Grayder’s Pink Grapefruit Radler will be available this year only at the Griffin GastroPub in Bracebridge, Sawdust City Brewery in Gravenhurst and LCBO’s across the province.
