School bus driver had alcohol, blew warning

TINY TOWNSHIP — A school bus driver caught this week with open liquor in his vehicle and who blew a blood alcohol warning has been charged and fined.

Concerned citizens called police about a 59-year-old school bus driver – with no kids in it – who may have been drinking and driving.

Provincial police were alerted “by numerous community members” of an area school bus driver they said may be consuming alcoholic beverages while operating the school bus.

Officers were able to locate and stop the suspect school bus — which was occupied by a lone driver — on Concession 15 of Tiny Township and entered into a roadside drinking and driving investigation.

As a result of this investigation, Michael Binseel, 59, of Tiny Township lost his driving privileges for three days and handed a mandatory $198 fine under the Administrative Drivers Licence Suspension (ADLS) as a result of the approved Roadside Screening Device test, said police in a Southern Georgian Bay detachment release.

He was also charged with driving motor vehicle with open container of liquor contrary to section 32 (1) of the Liquor Licence Act.

The unoccupied school bus was removed from the scene by the school bus company.

Detachment members wish to thank those community minded individuals who called in to report their observations to help remove a potential hazard from our area roadways.
