Chris Lee Olympic fan club loud, proud in MacTier

MACTIER — Who says hockey isn’t the great Canadian unifer.

It’s been one big happy family affair this week.

And that the rink isn’t the centre of smalltowns everywhere.

Not here in west Muskoka, where fans and friends and family of Chris Lee have been gathering the past couple of days – morning and night – cheering on the Team Canada defenceman in Pyeonchang.

MacTier native Dawn MacDonald has been tweeting up a storm in support and was back at her cottage this week to help lead the charge.

After Game 1 Wednesday morning, MacTier time, when dozens of village folk got up extra early for the 5-1 win over the Swiss, MacDonald followed up Friday tweeting: “Don’t forget to come out and cheer our own #chrislee4 on tonight at the MacTier Arena for Game Two against the Czech Republic.

“Bar opens at 9:00 pm. Game time 9:45 p.m. All proceeds go to Kidsport Georgian Bay.”

And to think they were going to turn this rink into a medical marijuana factory.

Dozens are tuned in to the big screen upstairs in the community room at the MacTier arena to watch Chris Lee and Team Canada at the Olympics.
