Our History
MuskokaTODAY began in 1994 as bi-weekly newspaper based in Gravenhurst, and had had a news website from its beginning. In 2010 we rebranded as MuskokaTODAILY.com, an online newspaper only. Now, in February 2018, we have returned to our MuskokaTODAY roots with an updated website makeover. We are published by Clairmont Communications, which is solely owned by Mark Clairmont. He and his late father Hugh Clairmont, who was editor of the Gravenhurst Banner and Muskoka News dating back to the late 1940s, have been covering Muskoka and Central Ontario for 70 years. Editor Mark Clairmont was also editor of the Gravenhurst Banner and with other Ontario newspapers. He currently works as an editor at the Hamilton Spectator, in his 30th year. His grandfather Walter Clairmont was an editor with the Globe and Mail. His son, Hugh, was a Central Ontario “stringer” for all the Toronto dailies. Through three generations, the Clairmonts have been covering Muskoka and Central Ontario news for almost 100 years.
