UPDATE: 4 dead in triple murder-suicide
RYERSON TWP. — The CBC is reporting that an elderly woman, her daughter and grandson are among four people dead in what’s being investigated as a triple homicide and suicide northwest of Huntsville.
According to neighbours, they say the victims are Raija Turunen, Ulla Theoret and Paul Theoret.
Provincial police said over the weekend they believe a man killed two women and another man before killing himself in Ryerson Township, Ont., a community of about 650 people.
The CBC says the incident happened at a home at the end of a road.
Det.-Insp. Martin Graham, who is heading up the investigation, says somebody stopped by the home on Friday evening and found “the tragic scene.”
He said three of the deceased were members of the same family, and lived in the house where they were found.
“The fourth deceased in the residence is not related by blood to the three victims of the homicide, but is also a resident of Ryerson Township,” he said.
He added that firearms were recovered from the scene, but wouldn’t say whether any of the deceased appeared to have been shot.
He said police won’t be commenting on any potential cause of death until a post-mortem is complete, which likely won’t be until later in the week.
However, OPP Sgt. Carlo Berardi said earlier that all four bodies showed signs of trauma.
BURK’S FALLS — Four people are dead after some kind of violence at a home near here Friday night.
Provincial police are saying little about who or what happened in what they are calling “suspicious” deaths.
All they will say is that it was at a “home” in Ryerson Township, which is north and west of Huntsville.
They do confirm that unidentified males and two unidentified females were found by police with “obvious signs of trauma.”
They say they are trying to determine when they died.
The Criminal Investigations Branch of the OPP is now leading the investigation into the deaths.
Police are still working to confirm the identities of the victims.
Berardi says the investigation is ongoing but investigators believe there isn’t a threat to public safety.
