FOUR MORE MUSKOKA IMPAIRED DRIVING CHARGES ARE LAID AS SUMMER ENDS ITS SECOND LAST WEEK
MUSKOKA — Looking ahead to Labour Day weekend police continue to charge drivers with impaired operation.
Four the past week alone across Muskoka.
Sunday two men were charged after single-vehicle collisions in which they left the road.
On August 23, at 3:30 a.m., officers responded to a singe vehicle collision on Hwy. 141 in Muskoka Lakes Township.
Police say the vehicle left the road and landed in a ditch.
The driver was not injured.
Police arrived and began an investigation, arresting and charging 40-year-old Christopher Jones, of Oakville, with Impaired Operation.
Jones is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on October 13, 2026.
Later that day, at 11:10 p.m., officers, along with Muskoka EMS and Muskoka Lakes Fire Department, responded to a single vehicle collision on Clear Lake Road in Muskoka Lakes Township.
The vehicle was located in the woods with significant damage and the occupants had fled the scene.
Two occupants were located nearby and were transported to hospital with minor injuries and the OPP K9 Unit with the assistance of the OPP Emergency Response Team (ERT), located the driver, placing him under arrest.
Greg Knight, 47, of Torrance was charged with Impaired Operation, Over 80 and Failure to stop after accident.
Knight is to appear in the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge on October 6, 2026.
Driver flees Hwy. 11 collision Aug. 20
Up in Huntsville, two other separate incidens were investigated leading to charges.
On Saturday, August 22, at about 4:15 p.m., officers responded to a report of a vehicle swerving on Highway 11 in the Town of Huntsville.
Police located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on Ravenscliffe Road.
With the use of an Approved Screening Device (ASD), the driver registered a ‘FAIL.’
And as a result the driver was arrested.
Eric Lauzon, 41, of Smooth Rock Falls was charged with Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).
Lauzon is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge at a later date.
And on Thursday August 20, at about 10:30 p.m., officers responded to a report of a collision on Hwy. 11 northbound.
The vehicle did not remain at the scene and continued driving.
Police eventually located the vehicle and stopped it.
Following an impaired driving investigation, Scott West, 39, of Huntsville, was charged with:
- Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus)
- Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs
- Failure to stop after accident
West, too, is to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge at a later date.
