GET ON TRACKS SATURDAY, SUNDAY FOR ALZHEIMER’S WALKS AT SPORTSPLEX, CONROY PARK FROM 11:30 A.M. TO 3 P.M.
BRACEBRIDGE — Every three seconds, someone in the world develops dementia.
The statistics are staggering.
According to the Alzheimer Society of Canada, as of 2025 over 770,000 Canadians are living with dementia and Alzheimer’s accounts for 60-80% of these cases.
On May 30 and May 31, communities across Muskoka will take thousands of steps together to bring hope, vital support, and raise awareness for families facing Alzheimer’s and other dementias.
We invite the Muskoka community to take part in the annual IG Wealth Management Walk for Alzheimer’s: the country’s largest fundraiser supporting people living with dementia and the families who care for them. The event brings together individuals, families, businesses, and community leaders to walk in solidarity, while raising funds for vital local programs and services.
Organized by the Alzheimer Society of Muskoka, The Walk helps fund counselling, education, support groups, and resources that assist people living with dementia at every stage of the journey.
“Every step taken during the Walk for Alzheimer’s represents someone in our community who is affected by dementia,” stated John Adresen, executive director, Alzheimer Society of Muskoka. “The funds raised through OUR BIGGEST FUNDRAISER stay within our Muskoka communities and help ensure individuals and their families have access to the support, information, and compassion they need.”
For many participants, The Walk is deeply personal. Families often form teams to honour loved ones who are living with dementia or to remember those who have passed on.
One local participant shared that joining The Walk has become a meaningful way to support a parent living with Alzheimer’s. “Watching someone you love go through dementia can feel overwhelming,” they said. “But when you see a whole community coming together to walk beside you, you realize you’re not alone.”
Dementia currently affects hundreds of thousands of Canadians, and that number continues to grow daily. Events like The Walk play a critical role in building awareness while strengthening the support network available to caregivers and families.
Community members of all ages are encouraged to participate. Whether walking in honour of a loved one, supporting a friend, or simply helping raise awareness, every step helps make a difference.
