YOUTH, 14, CHARGED AFTER POLICE SAY THEY UTTERED THREATS AT HUNTSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL ABOUT ‘WANTING TO CAUSE HARM’

HUNTSVILLE — Police, school and health officials are investigating an incident reported last Thursday at the Huntsville High School that a youth allegedly made threats about “wanting to cause harm,” an OPP report said yesterday.
The Huntsville OPP would like to thank those members of the public who brought this information to the attention of the school.
“We all have a role to play in keeping our community safe,” police said.
They also note this was an isolated incident and there is no concern for public safety.
On February 19 officers were made aware that a student had made a comment to several peers about wanting to cause harm.
In partnership with the Trillium Lakelands District School Board, and the high school, the OPP participated in an assessment of the student, their comments and any potential risk.
As a result of the investigation a 14-year-old student, who cannot be named due to the provisions under the Youth Criminal Justice Act (YCJA), was arrested and charged with uttering a threat.
The youth is appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge Ontario at a future date, said police.
The incident happened just over a week following the Feb. 10 mass shooting in Tumber Ridge, B.C., which saw eight victims killed, including six children and an education assistant killed in Tumbler Ridge, B.C. As well as the shooter.
