FOUR SUSPECTS IN GREY SEDAN ACCUSED IN LATE NIGHT HARRASSMENT OF DRIVER PICKING UP ‘STOLEN TRUCK’ IN TOWING PARKING LOT IN GRAVENHURST SATURDAY JAN. 31

GRAVENHURST — A frightening late night incident involving a man picking up a reported stolen truck at a towing and recovery lot, in Gravenhurst, has police looking for a suspect sedan with four people who “harassed” the victim before he called 911.

The OPP are investigating after receiving a 911 call Saturday Jan. 31, at 10:25 p.m., at Gravenhurst Towing and Recovery on Elwell Park Road off the Jones Road at the north end of town. It is near the Gravenhurst Industrial Park and Gravenhurst Rifle and Revolver Club.

Officers responded to the call from a member of the public who reported they had gone to the towing lot to pick up their vehicle, which had recently been recovered by police.

According to towing company owner Donne Turner, he told MuskokaTODAY.com this afternoon that the Dodge Ram had been reported to police as stolen and they recovered it in Bracebridge and had him impound it for “about a day” at his towing yard.

Turner said after receiving confirmation from the OPP he pulled the pick-up outside his gates and turned it over to another man after getting him to sign for it.

But the man’s key wouldn’t work.

So rather than wait around, Turner left it to the man who said he was going to call another tow company from down south to come pick it up in Gravenhurst.

And Turner, who started and has run his town towing business for 37 years, said he left.

He said he heard the truck was involved in some kind of vehicle switch.

That’s when the man who came to claim it called police reporting he had been harassed by four individuals in the grey sedan.

He said a grey sedan drove in quickly and “drifted” around them, causing them to be concerned for their safety, said a police report today.

Also that an unidentified item from the grey sedan hit his vehicle, causing damage, before the suspects fled the scene.

Turner said that when he returned to his towing yard the next day “you could see they were doing donuts and it looked like it was a demolition derby.”

Police say the suspect vehicle is a grey four-door sedan, with body damage, as shown in the attached OPP photos.

Turner  said he does not have security cameras.

Police ask that anyone with information to call the south Muskoka OPP detachment at 1-888-310-1122. Or if you wish to remain anonymous, you may call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or online at www.crimestopperssdm.com

Gravenhurst Towing and Recovery is on Elwell Park Road, just off the Jones Road.
