HUNTSVILLE — An undetermined cause a fire destroyed a home here yesterday afternoon.
On February 5 at 3 p.m., the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department responded to a report of a structure fire on Oak Ridge Road in Huntsville.
The homeowner and their pet dog were not home at the time of the fire. And no other injuries were reported.
Firefighters from Station 1 (Huntsville) and Station 5 (Port Sydney) responded with 18 firefighters and seven fire apparatus. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Muskoka EMS, and Hydro One also attended.
When fire crews arrived they found the home fully in flames, with the roof collapsing into the structure.
Firefighters worked for approximately four hours to bring the fire under control and fully extinguish the fire, they say in a release.
Due to the extent of damage to the home, the exact cause of the fire could not be determined.
They also acknowledged that emergency access to the property was greatly improved by a clearly marked civic address sign and a well-maintained laneway, allowing crews to locate and access the scene quickly. Residents are reminded that visible address signage and clear access routes can make a critical difference for emergency responders.
For more information on fire prevention, smoke and carbon monoxide alarm requirements, or to schedule a home fire safety inspection, please contact the Huntsville/Lake of Bays Fire Department at 705-789-5201.
An investigation continues.
