IMMITATION GUN PROMPTS POLICE TO CLOSE MAIN INTERSECTION BRIEFLY IN GRAVENHURST WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON

GRAVENHURST — A weapons call here late Wednesday afternoon had police responding and closing streets around the main intersection here.

Officers responded January 28, at 5:30 p.m., to a report from a member of the public on Bay Street after they believed a person had pointed a firearm at the street from an apartment near Bay Street and Muskoka Road South.

In the interest of public safety, police closed the nearby roads and conducted an investigation.

The involved individual was determined to be a youth and was playing with an imitation firearm.

Police say the youth and their family were co-operative and “reflective” and the area was soon re-opened to traffic and cleared.

The OPP says it appreciates the patience and co-operation from all members of the community.

Streets around the intersection of Bay Street and Muskoka Road South were briefly closed Wednesdday afternoon at 5:30 p.m. responding to a gun call in downtown Gravenhurst.
