GRAVENHURST — A red, four-door pick-up truck went up in flames on Bethune Drive N. here late this morning.

Traffic was briefly stopped in both directions as flames shot out of the gutted cabin of the red vehicle headed northbound out of Gravenhurst.

And it was left to burn sitting on the right shoulder as both sides of the road were covered in black smoke residue after the driver fled.

Huge black plumes of smoke billowed east from the burnt out truck in stark contrast to  the clear white snow bordering the road.

A social media post from an Amanda HP captured the orange flames.

As of late this afternoon police and fire officials who responded had not issued a statement about the cause of the burning vehicle.

Just before 12:30 p.m., when MuskokaTODAY.com was on scene, a tow truck driver arrived to haul it away while two police vehicles remained on the scene investigating.
