INCOMING SNOW SATURDAY CANCELS BIFOCALS’ AFTERNOON CONCERT TODAY AT 2 P.M. — BUT HOPE FOR DAY BEFORE CHRISTMAS

GRAVENHURST — Weather is playing havoc with yet another Christmas concert today.

But there may be hope.

Saturday afternoon’s Bifocals Concert Band ‘Sleighbells’ festive offering scheduled for 2 p.m. has been unfortunately called off.

Several of the band’s members who live across Muskoka and down to Orillia could find it difficult to make it on the bandstand without a sleigh.

As a result, music director and conductor Kim Barlow said in note early this morning: “I am so sorry to do this, but I feel it’s best to cancel today’s concert.

“The weather prediction looks bad and I don’t want anyone to have an accident trying to get through the snow squalls.

“I will try to find another date for us before Christmas, if that can work for enough of us.

“Again, I’m so sorry, but I feel it’s imperative to err on the side of caution in this situation.

“Take care and stay warm and safe.”

Meanwhile, she said the Bifocals expect to still be out Tuesday at retirement and nursing homes in Gravenhurst and Bracebridge for their annual in-house concerts there.

The billboard was out and the band was ready – but not the weather.
