GRAVENHURST — The Elderberries Choir delivered a musical “moment in time” this weekend, offering Peace and joy through a pair of warm, spirited holiday concerts that contrasted the wintry weather outside.

Performing Saturday night at St. James Anglican Church and again Sunday afternoon at Trinity United Church, the Gravenhurst ensemble condensed Handel’s Messiah to make room for a full program of seasonal choral works, hymns and carols.

Wearing crisp white shirts and festive red ties, the choir filled both churches with harmony and heart — something audiences have come to expect from the long-running community group known for its polished sound and welcoming presence.

Under the steady hand of director Louise Jardine, the Elderberries delivered a smooth, confident 90-minute performance that was warmly received at both venues.

Jardine guided the singers through a range of holiday favourites, showcasing their blend and versatility while keeping the mood celebratory and bright.

Which also included traditional sing-a-longs.

The concerts marked the choir’s annual musical opening to the season of giving — and a reminder that, even in the coldest stretch of December, community voices can warm a room.

John Twist welcomed back faithful community members, noting a year ago the Elderberries had to cancel due to weather. But this year they were happy to bring their comfort and joy Peace offerings before Christmas.
Director Louise Jardine, as ususal, coaxed the most out out of the men and women with her zealous and animated conducting in the opeing piece.
