GRAVENHURST — The Gryphons are 1-2 after pool play today in the OFSSA finals.
Early leads in both their first set of morning games weren’t enough against the defending provincial champion Hamilton District Christian High School.
GHS dropped a pair of sets to the No. 2 ranked team at the provincial finals Thursday when they met up with a hot-handed server.
They did rebound to beat E.C. Jeunes Frontiere, the 18th ranked team in a start two hours later and even their record a 1-1.
And in a 2:30 p.m. set against 5th ranked E.S.C. Saint-Frere-Andres, the Gryphons held their own in the first game losing by just two points 25-23.
The host Gravenhurst High School team managed to push their opponent to a tie-breaking third set game with a 25-19 win.
But in a game some of their fans think they probably could have won, they lost 15-7 in the deciding short-game rubber match.
Friday they get one last chance to finish among the top four of five in their pool to advance at 10 a.m. in Bracebridge at BMLSS.

NOTES:
- One of the 20 teams playing is from Red River near the Manitoba border. It cost them $26,000 to participate after driving to Thunder Bay, flying the team of just over a dozen players and coaches to Toronto, where they stayed overnight before renting vehicles to drive to Muskoka for four nights in a hotel.
- A teams banquet last night at Gravenhurst Public School let teams unwind after first-day play with some some tunes and dinner provided by Miss Underwood and the GHS hospitality students.
