BRACEBRIDGE — A ‘Father’s Day’ road trip was a winner for Alliston who stung the Muskoka Bears 6-1 at home Sunday afternoon.

With new management teams and several new players on both sides of the ice it was the undefeated Hornets who easily dominated.

Bears goalie Kyle Downey, who faced 68 shots in their first meeting this season (his most ever in a net), suffered 62 yesterday.

Muskoka was outshot 23-2 in the first period, fared better in the second but still less at 17-8 and 22-10 in the third when Kaiden Szabo finally put one past Hornets goalie Riley Arts at 16:51.

The Bears had 20 shots overall.

After an scoreless first period, Alliston pumped out three each in the second and third from Will Millington at 8:27 (2nd), Ben Smith 14:01 (2nd), Jax Bellow 19:57 (2nd); and Nick Lamont 5:14 (3rd), Millington again 11:01 (3rd) and Noah Larmon 14:41 (3rd).

Muskoka would have had the same number of 5 penalties if not for three at the end of the game with four seconds remaining when Sam Carruthers received two minors for face masking and one for slashing.

The Bears were 0-3 on the power play while Alliston was 2-6. (The Hornets are also doing another ‘Mother’ s Day’ road trip later in the season.)

Attendance was 189.

It was the third loss for the 3-11 Bears. The Hornets are 11-0.

The Huntsville Otters are 2-10.

Last Friday the Bears also lost in Midland 4-1 and Saturday fell in Penetang 6-2.

Muskoka’s next games are Friday in Huntsville and home to Midland Saturday. Both are 7 p.m. starts.

Jack Seney was in deep ofetn in offence for the Bears, but it wasn’t until late in the third that Kaiden Szabo scored Muskoka’s lone goal at 16:27 of the third. PHOTO Mark Clairmont MuskokaTODAY.com
