BAY STREET PAVING UNDERWAY TODAY UP TO SARAH; WITH SINGLE LANE CLOSURES AGAIN NEXT WEEK FROM MUSKOKA WHARF TO GREAVETTE FOR GRINDING, FULL REPAVING

GRAVENHURST — Headed for home — at least Sarah Street.

Slow but sure, C. Valley pavers — the ones who made quick work of James Street paving one night last year — made the turn at Bay and Greavette Street at noon today as they head up hill toward the midway point on the Bay & Beyond road restitution.

Magic to the ears of residents along that three-block section of Bay, which may be fully open again by this Thanksgiving Weekend.

However Trisan Construction said later this afternoon that the section from Steamship Bay at Muskoka Wharf to Greavette Street will be reduced to one lane as grinding and resurfacing will take place. The daily work will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. a handout letter to residents reads.

The water, sewer and storm pipe replacement project working it’s way from North Muldrew Lake Road up past the Muskoka Wharf is completing this year’s first of two phases with a finishing point of John and Bay streets before Christmas.

With everyone crossing their fingers that they can complete this year’s work before another wicked snowstorm like the one that hit just hours after they finished the section up to Greavette Street Thursday Nov. 30.

Before storm-ageddon rained down on Muskoka for a week dropping about six feet of snow and more.

Eyewitness news reports from the Bay Street bureau of MuskokaTODAY.com today show steam rollers progressing on the middle year of the three-year Bay & Beyond water, sewer and storm water project.

Pavers are glad the weather is cooperating Wednesday with a dip in temperature, which makes the asphalt set a bit better. And makes the tough job of paving easier on the workers raking and smoothing over the black top.

Even if most fall observers are still happy with just over a dozen degrees high.

The job’s not done quite yet with another layer still to come.

Then it’s onward and upwards next week on another two-block section of Sarah to Mary and John streets.

It could also free traffic by this weekend to go across from Bay to Wanda Miller Street and left up Hotchkiss past the public school and allow drivers to return to the Muskoka Road main street.

Watch for the orange cones to be sure.

The final phase of the three-year project in 2026 is scheduled to finish up Bay, cross the Muskoka Road main street, down two blocks of Brock Street and reach Bethune Drive and Gull Lake Rotary Park next summer/fall.

All eyes are on today’s paving including workers and drivers still headed east up Brown Street.
